Dr. Tom Landecker – Secretary
Tom Landecker is a Principal Research Officer at the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO) at Penticton, B.C., part of Canada's National Research Council. His professional training is in electrical engineering, with postgraduate work in radio astronomy. Throughout his career he has applied this background to the development of innovative radio telescopes and techniques for radio astronomy, and has used instruments he has built to investigate the physics of the Milky Way. His current research centres on understanding the role of magnetic fields in the universe. He is an Adjunct Professor at UBC Okanagan, at the University of Calgary, and at the University of Sydney in Australia. He works with graduate students at all three institutions.
He was the Director of DRAO for 13 years. He was elected to the School Board in Penticton for 5 years, and was appointed to the Board of Governors of Okanagan University College for 6 years, serving 18 months as Board Chair. For many years he has been involved in economic development initiatives in the Okanagan through participation in the Okanagan Partnership and its predecessors, and has long been promoting a role for DRAO in the economic growth of the region. He helped with the establishment of ORIC in 2005 and has been a member of the ORIC Board since its inception.
